How do I order a portrait of my pet?
It's easy! Just complete this form to make a tentative, no obligations booking. I will follow up your interest with a friendly, informal email and we will likely exchange a few emails to answer all of your questions before we both agree to formally confirm your booking.
How long will it take to make?
Please allow between 10-14 days for the creation of your pet portrait. Larger pieces, such as
16 x 24 inches, may take up to 21 days. I provide a bespoke estimate at the time of your booking and always endeavour to complete within the proposed time frame.
What materials do you use?
I create all of my pet portraits with Faber-Castell Polychromos coloured pencils. These are professional artist's quality pencils, favoured by the best coloured pencil artists around the world. My paper of choice is Daler-Rowney fine grain drawing paper, 200gsm.
Do I need to send you a photograph of my pet(s)?
Yes, please :) A hi-resolution photograph is essential (see below for help). More than one photograph is even better!
Can you offer any advice on taking a good photograph?
I have put together this advice for those that would like help with taking photographs.
My pet is sadly no longer with us, and I don't have any high-quality photographs of him/her. Can you work from a low-quality photograph?
I will take a look at any photographs that you have, making a decision on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes it is possible to make a beautiful portrait even from a low-quality reference photo, but in other cases I may, with regret, need to pass on the commission.
I have more than one pet. Can you make a single, group portrait from individual photographs of them?
Group pet-portraits with multiple subjects are a popular choice. Sometimes it is difficult to get a great photo of all your pets together, but in most cases I can design a group composition from separate, individual photos of your pets. I will even suggest different compositions and give you the option to pick the one that you like best.
I would like my pet portrait to have a background, can you do this?
Whilst my preference is to draw subjects isolated against a white background, I am more than happy to discuss including a background if it is your strong preference to have one. There will be an additional cost if you choose this, equivalent to the additional length of time required for me to create the artwork.
Do you draw any pets other than cats, dogs and birds?
Yes! I am especially interested in taking commissions for uncommon or unusual pets.
How do I pay?
My preference is to use PayPal invoicing, which I find works very well for both clients and myself. Once your booking has been confirmed, I will send you an invoice for a 10% deposit.
The remaining 90% will be invoiced once your pet portrait is complete and I have shown you a photograph of it to evidence its completion. If you would prefer to pay by installments, just let me know.
How will my artwork be packaged and shipped to me?
Your pet portrait will be carefully rolled between sheets of acid-free tissue paper and nestled safely inside a heavy-duty mailing tube, secured tightly at both ends. This offers optimal protection during transit. For UK orders I use Royal Mail Special Delivery, which is a next-day 'tracked and signed-for' service. For anywhere outside of the UK I use Royal Mail 'International tracked and signed' for, or the closest available service that operates in your country. Postage and packaging costs are included in my fee, they are not extra.
